This is a unique murrina from Schneidereits Colosseo Roma glass pictorial cane. Inspired by the classic Roman micromosaics, the use of minute detail and oil painting-like color enable Ken to emulate the centuries-old Grand Tour art form. For more than 2000 years, glass makers have produced miniature pictures by assembling and fusing glass known as murrine. Size: 1 diameter 1/8 thick. This murrina is presented in a gem box and comes with a signed Certificate of Authenticity. As the owner of Studio 11, I design and create custom glass sculpture for a client base that my wife Sonya and I have been building since 1988. We feel blessed that U. S presidents, foreign dignitaries, corporate chiefs, celebrities, and folks from all walks of life have been presented with something unique made in our studio. During a career that began over 25 years ago, I have worked in many glass art techniques, including stained glass work, marbles, and figurative sculptures, but my most recent passion is complex murrine pictorials. This grand murrina was a surprising piece from the second punty cane end. Kens mosaic cylinder was preheated and picked up from the kiln with the first punty/maria and heated for pulling. When ready, the second punty was added and its maria really grabbed onto the core of the mosaic image being the Coliseum. This piece highlights all the detail and coloring that went into rendering the Coliseum.
