For your consideration is an exquisite, iridescent, Smyers Studio art glass paperweight. It measures 3 inches wide and 2 1/2 inches tall. A bright orange crescent moon is on the top. Little white stars appear in the shiny iridescent aqua and deep blue sky. The sides are covered with pulled feathered designs that resemble deep blue waves. In some lights the paperweight has iridescent hues and you can see slight traces of magenta, teal and gold. It is in good condition without, cracks or chips. There are some slight scratches on the base where it rests. The bottom reads: Smyers Studios, 1978. It is very striking and would be a wonderful addition to your signed, paperweight collection. Capturing underwater worlds in a sphere of glass doesn’t do the real thing justice but I have to say it comes close. I make these myself and start with a golf ball size amount of molten glass upon which I start to apply various colours that react with one another to achieve a unique blend and mottled effect. Other inclusions are added such as venetian style glass cane, 100% 24K Gold Leaf , and dichroic color. F ly through a frozen underwater world without even getting wet. Each piece is finished with a cut and ground bottom so the piece is ready for display and also signed by me and dated as well. This was the fourth Annual Collector’s Weight issued in 2001, with a lampwork flower and 3 buds set on a translucent amethyst ground. This looks dark on a surface, but bright on a stand or glass shelf. Top facet and six side facets. Signed with a’P’ cane at the bottom of the flower stem, and a’PPCC’ cane at the centre of the concave polished base. For your consideration is a beautiful, vintage, hand blown, ORIENT AND FLUME paperweight. The background is a soft iridescent champagne color. A multi colored butterfly appears below an iridescent pearl colored flower on a green stalk. The sides have pulled feather designs. The piece is signed Orient and Flume, 176 M, 1976. It is approximately 3 inches wide and 2 1/4 inches high. In some lights there is an iridescent hue to the flower, butterfly and stem. It is in great condition with no chips or cracks. For your consideration is a fabulous Kosta studio art glass paperweight done by Goran Warff. It is bright green and deep blue with hundreds of multi sized bubbles in the clear glass interior. It measures approximately 3 1/2 inches wide and 3 1/4 inches tall. The bottom is signed Kosta96899 Warff. It is heavy weighing 2 1/2 pounds. This was made in the 1970’s. Its in nice condition without scratches or cracks. There are two small indentations on the base that were done during the glass blowing process (see last photo). Southern New Jersey has been called “The Cradle of American Glass” for the same reason that it could be called The Cradle of American Asparagus Farming. There’s a lot of sand in the soil, and sand (silica) is what is melted to make glass. Many of the glass makers migrated to this area from Europe in and around the late 1790s thru the mid 1800s. There were so many in this area at the time, New England Glass, Sandwich, Boston, Gillinder, Pairpoint and Millville just to name a few. Glass factories have been here for over 200 years, but it wasn’t until the late 1960s that someone decided to call attention to it. That someone was Frank Wheaton Jr. Grandson of the founder of Wheaton Industries, one of the biggest companies in glassmaking. One of my hobbies is collecting Art Glass Paperweights.
