It does have a bunch of very light scratches which are mainly confined to the dome area and few tiny flea bites hear and there. This has a great detailed Motif with a Beehive, Bees flying over the Beehive, a Tree, Grass and a White Box Frame around the Beehive. I consider this Amazing Work of Art to be in Good. This one has the a very clear and distinctive Millville Ring. This one has a clear bottom that does show heavy shelf wear. The pontil mark is slightly rough to the touch. Southern New Jersey has been called “The Cradle of American Glass” for the same reason that it could be called The Cradle of American Asparagus Farming. There’s a lot of sand in the soil, and sand (silica) is what is melted to make glass. Many of the glass makers migrated to this area from Europe in and around the late 1790s thru the mid 1800s. There were so many in this area at the time, New England Glass, Sandwich, Boston, Gillinder, Pairpoint and Millville just to name a few. Glass factories have been here for over 200 years, but it wasn’t until the late 1960s that someone decided to call attention to it. That someone was Frank Wheaton Jr. Grandson of the founder of Wheaton Industries, one of the biggest companies in glassmaking. One of my hobbies is collecting Art Glass Paperweights. Paul Ysart paperweight : 74 mm / 2 15/16 inch diameter. Description: Lovely millefiori cane and twist spoke paperweight with translucent green ground, made in Scotland by Paul Ysart. The millefiori canes are set in a wheel pattern at the centre, with an outer garland of alternating large and small canes separated by yellow twists and aventurine centred twists. Typical fire polished, slightly recessed base with snapped off’sugary’ pontil mark. There are fine radial lines and some tiny fractures around the pontil mark.
