ANTIQUE Dump English Victorian Sulphide PLAQUE Art Glass Paperweight In Beautiful Green Glass. (Circa Pre 1840 – 1860). The weight features a Plaque that reads “COMPLIMENTS OF THE SEASON”. There are several dings here and there but mainly confined to one side, please see Yellow arrows in the last 2 pictures numbers 8 & 9. I do see a few light scratches and a few tiny flea bites here and there but not bad at all for it’s age. There is Amazing Detail to this Wonderful Plaque Motif. It would certainly be a nice addition to your collection. I consider this Very Scarce Paperweight to be in Very Good Original Antique Condition. The clear flat bottom does show heavy shelf wear. This is a MAGNUM Size Paperweight and it measures 4″ Diameter by 5 3/4″ Tall and weighs just over 5 pounds all by itself. Ease check the pictures for further description. Short History of English Victorian. Dump glass weights were made in England by many different glass factories from the early 19th century. In the early 19th century there was a great demand glass bottles. To avoid wasting this remainder glass, factories began making thousands of these types of weights. Small dump weights were used as paperweights, and larger ones would be used as doorstops. Some of the weights had internal designs; controlled bubbles, complicated motifs made from foil or sulphides. The majority of these Dump Weights were unmarked and have a rough pontil. One of my hobbies is collecting Art Glass Paperweights.
