This weight is six flower bouquet by Paul Ysart. The flowers are set on green stems, with six surrounding green leaves behind the flowers. There are two complex cog canes in light blue, white and pink flanking the stems at their base. There is an authentic “PY” signature cane underneath the yellow flower. The base is a latticinio stave basket, alternating between three white latticinio canes and one sky blue and white latticinio cane. The weight is 2.8″ in diameter and 2.25″ tall. The base is polished, but there is a rough pontil mark in the depressed center. The weight is in excellent condition. The glass is very clear. The “PY” signature cane was used throughout Ysart’s career from well before 1940 through the 1960s. After 1955, when Paul Jokelson began distributing Ysart’s weights in the United States, the “PY” cane was almost exclusively used for the American imports. His fater Salvador emigrated from Spain to France in 1905 to work in the glass industry there. In 1916 they moved again, to Glasgow, Scotland, and then finally ended up in Perth in 1922. By that time Paul and his brothers, Augustine, Vincent, and Antoine were all accomplished glass makers. Paul began making paperweights in the early 1930s, and was one of the few true pioneers in the modern paperweight renaissance in the 1950s. We are pleased to offer this beautiful, glass, hand-etched paperweight made by Orient and Flume. The paperweight is decorated with etchings by Lubomir Richter of eagles one landing on a nest and one perched on a branch. It measures approximately 2 ¾ inches in diameter and is in excellent condition. There appears to be a pin-point sized fleck on one of the eagle wing feathers (see photo).
