Spectacular Peter McDougall (PMcD) Large Closepack Millefiori Paperweight. Wonderful large paperweight with a closepack design featuring many large complex millefiori canes over a pink and light blue frit ground. It is signed in the design with a complex cane made from four separate letter canes forming the signature PMcD. It also has a paper label “PMcD Glass Studio LTD, Hand Made in Crieff Scotland” on the base. One of Peter McDougall’s best millefiori designs. This style was also made in small and medium size weights. The picture does not do justice to this paperweight. Ignore the white areas, they are reflections and glare from the lights. Peter McDougall started his glass making career as an apprentice at Strathearn Glass in Crieff, Scotland back in the 1960s. When Perthshire was formed in 1968, he left Strathearn to move to Perthshire and worked there in many positions, eventually becoming Manager and Chief Glassmaker. Perthshire Paperweights closed early in 2002 after the death of the owner Neil Drysdale. Peter McDougall then made high quality glass paperweights at his own glass studio, PMcD Glass Studio Ltd. In Crieff, Scotland from 2002 until early 2012. The studio is now closed but Peter plans to continue to make a limited number of paperweights in the future. Large Size : Just under 3″ diameter by 1 15/16″ high. The bottom is ground concave. Condition : Excellent condition with no scratches, chips or cracks. Parabelle Glass Paperweight from the 1996 collection. Scratch signed on the bottom Parabelle Glass 1996 two of ten. The edition of ten weights was originally offered through LH Selman. Just over 3 inches wide and 2 inches tall. Central Clichy-style pink rose surrounded by a ring of 8 smaller Clichy-style pink roses, and then 3 canes in a lovely array of Parabelles Pansy and pasty mold canes with a color scheme focused on shades of green and purple. All set on a cross hatched white and clear latticino ground. The period from 1996 to their closing in 1998 was the golden era for Parabelle- glass finish issues had been fully resolved, and the pansy and rose canes were at their finest- at a level matching the great French weights of the mid-19. Antique Baccarat Butterfly with millefiori cane wings and translucent filigree body set above a clear ground with Star-cut base. A garland of alternating Red/White canes and Arrowhead canes completes the design. The paperweight is 2-11/16″ in diameter and 1-7/8″ high. It has a star-cut base. The weight has been professionally polished and the upper surface Condition is Perfect. There is a one micro-nick to the end of one ray in the star-cut base, and a few small nicks to the edge of the base rim. Over all condition is excellent.
