This Art Glass Paperweight is from the late William Gaskills Cherished Collection. Gaskill was a former President of the National Paperweight Collectors Association (PCA) and an avid and very astute Art Glass Paperweight Collector. After His passing, his collection was on loan (for approximately 3 years from 2006 to 2009) to the Museum of American Glass (Wheaton Village) in Millville, NJ, which is now known as Wheaton Village Arts and Cultural Center. Gaskills highly regarded and very extensive Art Glass Paperweight Collection was on display in their most prominent area of the Museum at that time. Just prior to being put on display at the Museum, Lawrence Selman of the Renown L. Selman was commissioned to do an appraisal of the entire collection. Selman is known worldwide for his expertise in the field of Art Glass Paperweights and in 2001, Selman was awarded the honor of being named by the Paperweight Collectors Association, one of the Top Ten People of the 20. Century to influence the paperweight art form. Gaskills collection was considered to be one of the largest gatherings of Antique American Art Glass Paperweights known to be in private hands. In 2009 a family member took possession of the entire collection and it went safely and quietly into storage for approximately 6 years, from 2009 to 2015. In 2016 I was very proud and honored to have had the opportunity to acquire a large portion of Mr. Gaskills Wonderful and Cherished Art Glass Paperweight Collection. If youre a new collector, old collector or just would like a few original well documented paperweights for your collection please stay tuned and watch for my future Art Glass Paperweight auctions. Millville Glass Company /. Was know as one of the Largest Glass Makers in the Millville, NJ area (Circa 1880) and likewise the entire country. Southern New Jersey has been called “The Cradle of American Glass” for the same reason that it could be called The Cradle of American Asparagus Farming. There’s a lot of sand in the soil, and sand (silica) is what is melted to make glass. Many of the glass makers migrated to this area from Europe in and around the late 1790s thru the mid 1800s. There were so many in this area at the time, New England Glass, Sandwich, Boston, Gillinder, Pairpoint and Millville just to name a few. Glass factories have been here for over 200 years, but it wasn’t until the late 1960s that someone decided to call attention to it. That someone was Frank Wheaton Jr. Grandson of the founder of Wheaton Industries, one of the biggest companies in glassmaking. One of my hobbies is collecting Art Glass Paperweights. I’m a member of Midwest Paperweight Collectors Club as well as the Paperweight Collectors Association (PCA) which is our National Club. Please follow me so you won’t miss any of my fabulous items. This triple-faceted with encased bubble, Saturn series, optical paperweight called Harlequin/R (PH3SP) by Paul Harrie is approximately 4.50 high. The date is 2005 and signed. It may even be the prototype. The “R” or red dish pastel (delicate fuchsia) color is rare, or to put in another way, we have never seen another one like it. This is the exact showpiece that has graced the net since 2005; it is the one from the now defunct Light Opera, a legendary art glass store in San Francisco. As you can see from the scans, the minuscule tool mark is hardly visible in normal lighting. It was quite an effort to take its picture because of its tiny size. At any rate, do not expect this paperweight to be a machine-made perfection. Harrie is a cutting-edge American master, not a robot. And, we highly doubt that he would make another one exactly like it since he is an artist, not a factory. Surely, he has his great reputation to uphold. Besides, a new paperweight would not be the same since our optical has a’05 date. 2017 is more than a decade — how uncool to make another one. This Paul Harrie paperweight has never been used. We never use our masterpieces. It is the only one being auctioned off. Actual color may vary from pictures due to digital camera phenomenon, lighting, your computer settings, and other factors. Thank you for stopping by. This masterpiece will have a tamper-security sticker with a unique serial number -. Is the only one that is being auctioned off. This is a beautiful, and rare, Cape Cod Glass Works Christmas snowman and tree paperweight chock full of bits of latticino and filigree covering the surface of the tree, on a white sodden snow style base. It measures 4″ high, and 5 3/8″ X almost 3 1/2 across white base. The snowman has applied black eyes and smile and an orange nose, topped with a red white and green latticino hat, and red and white scarf. It has a signature cane on the base “CCGW94″ and its original paper label. It is in excellent condition with no chips, or cracks. These Christmas tree and snowman combo’s are not very common. Bill Burchfield started glass working at Pairpoint in the 1970’s, and went on to start his own studio/glass factory in the late 70’s or early 80’s, in Buzzards Bay, MA, then on to Sagamore, MA in the late 80’s working through the 1990’s, until it moved to Tennessee in about 2000 only working for a brief time before finally ceasing operations, and made some of the most beautiful crown weights, swirls, marbries, and millefiori paperweights and marbles, at the height of his career in the 1990s, and was best known for his Clichy style rose canes which are some of the best contemporary examples, in my opinion, but sadly passed away a little over a year ago.
