Lundberg Studios Daniel Salazar Floral Design withDragonfly Egg Paperweight 1984
Lundberg Studios Daniel Salazar Floral Design w/Dragonfly Egg Shape Paperweight 1984. He is well known for his gorgeous floral paperweights, but this is special in that it is oval or egg shaped in design and must rest on a special stand for balance as my photos illustrate. This is an excellent piece, and it is Daniel Salazar at his best. The paperweight is comprised of magnificent and beautifully formed purple violets which wind across the glass, interspersed with leaves and vine. Hovering above is a lovely Dragonfly with delicate wings and coloration. Most unusual is the double effect of globe within globe, adding to the intricacy of the design within. The weight is magnum in size, more than 3 and 1/2 inches in height. This weight is in excellent condition and will come with its required stand. For accuracy, there is a tiny occlusion or sparkle in the glass which is beneath the surface and was created during production. It cannot be photographed easily because it is so tiny and must have the light catch it “just so” which is difficult to do. The third photo might show the occlusion in a highly magnified state which distorts the size and appearance. This is an intricate paperweight, and in beautiful condition, a prize for any Daniel Salazar collector. Daniel Salazar is perhaps my favorite American paperweight maker as his floral designs are exquisite. The base is fully signed, Daniel Salazar Lundberg Studios 1984 062627. Large Art Glass Orient &Flume Iridescent Gold Hawthorne Blossoms Murrhinis vase
Up for sale here is a rare highly collectable irridized gold Hawthorne Blossoms vase. The vase consist of trees with branches and covered with raised murrhinis called Hawthorne Blossoms This is signed and dated on the bottom. Vase was made in 1980. I believe the artist could of been Scott Beyers or one of the other master glass blowers working at Orient & Flume. This is a highly collectable vase done in the Hawthorne blossom murrhinis technique. The vase stand s 9 3/4 ” tall and is 4 ” in diameter at it widest point. This would make a very nice addition to your collection. I only charge actual cost no extra’s. Bio Of Scott Beyers. Orient & Flume Artists. Master glass artist Scott Beyers is known for his graceful, free flowing designs achieved through the expert use of “torch worked” techniques. Through his extraordinary finesse with these most difficult techniques, his work displays motifs that display the most delicate of lines, sensitive colors and sense of movement. Scott grew up near the ocean in McKinleyville, California, exploring lagoons and riding logs. He attended high school in Vacaville, California and Toledo, Washington and went on to earn his AA degree in Technical Engineering from Shasta College in Redding, California. It was at Shasta College that he began his study of ceramics and glass. In 1976, he received his BA degree in Ceramics and Glass from California State University, Chico. When I first came to Orient & Flume, there was an explosion of techniques all around me. I wanted to do them all and I’d get excited just thinking about it. There was so much to learn. Creative ideas have always been freely exchanged here, and this is where I learned to design in glass Beyers is always trying new designs, whether inspired by something in his garden, or his collection of glass books. He particularly admires work by Galle, Baccarat and Clichy. Often he’ll make sketches or work directly from pictures. He is always striving for a feeling of natural flowing movement in his designs-a good example being his Red Beta Fish vase, where the seaweed appears to move with an invisible, swirling current. When viewing his Callalily Bouquet, flowers, leaves and petals seem to live in sprightly breezes or react to other forces of the elements, as naturally as if they were still growing in a field. Scott Beyers describes his technique; I work on the composition so that it encircles a piece. The vase design reads from all sides no matter how you turn it. Your eye doesn’t focus on just one spot. I try to do work that is technically flawless in both design and execution. This technical skill and artistic vision allows him to capture nature in it’s raw form, visually alive and vividly realistic. Examples of this artistry can be seen in his Butterfly in Paradise vase and his beautiful Winter Bamboo vase which was selected as Orient & Flume’s 1992 “Twenty Year in Business” Commemorative Design. About Orient & Flume Art Glass. Orient & Flume produces fine art glass for the collector. These signed pieces capture nature’s inspiration in both iridescent and crystal clear glass. Nationally acclaimed for its excellence in design since 1972, the glass of Orient & Flume utilizes both traditional and contemporary motifs and can be found in the permanent collections of the most prestigious museums in the world. In the early 1800’s, Chico was an important center for gold mining, railroad construction and ranching. By the late 1800’s, Chico had grown into a charming Victorian community. The quaint atmosphere soon created one of the most distinctive valley towns in California. About 1893, one characteristic home with a carriage house was built in the historic Oriental section of town. Located between Orient Street and Flume Street, this site was destined to play an important role in the story Orient & Flume. Early work of the studio was directed toward recreating the silver-luster of iridescent glass of such turn-of-the-century artists as Tiffany, Steuben, and Loetz. In time, this led to their current creations of intricate, three-dimensional design’s encased in clear glass. By 1973 the carriage house proved.
