A STUNNING KARNIG DABANIAN STUDIO ART GLASS PAPERWEIGHT SCULPTURE SIGNED. Here is some information I have found on the web and thought I would share. Dabanian served in the US Air Force and attended Wayne State University, where he was a science major and received and engineering degree in 1948 with a minor in fine arts. He was a mathematical genius and held several engineering patents. Karnig was also a partner in the Poultry Glass Works, the first independent studio in Detroit. During the early 1960’s, the introduction of small furnaces inspired the studio glass movement because the artists who designed glass art could then create their own work. Karnig’s fascination with design and invention led him to the Toledo Museum of Art, where he attended glassblowing workshops taught by director Dominic Labino. After that, he maintained the longest operating studio producing silverveiled glass in Michigan. His pieces are know for the “floating veils, ” layers of reflective surfaces that intertwine and form a series of dancing patterns that appear suspended inside the glass. This artistry has been featured in many other exhibitions, including the University of Michigan-Dearborn Mardigan Library Glass Month Project. His art creations reflect and appreciation of science, art and modern ideas are found in many private, public and corporate collections. Measures 5 inches tall by 4 inches wide. Signed SATAVA 1840-09 for artist Rick Satava, it features an amazing opalescent Jellyfish suspended within the glass – dome shape and narrowed base conform to the long tendrils – beautiful! Accented with metallic gold curls around the Jellyfish edge, opalescent cap appears to be cased with another dome – guessing this is extremely difficult to create. Antique French (Clockwise Spin) CLICHY SWIRL Glass Paperweight 2 1/8 Diameter, approx. This handcrafted crystal paperweight was most likely made during the classic period, 1845 – 1870. Light blue and white stripes rotating in clockwise pattern. Only one in four Clichy Swirls rotate this direction. Complex white pastry cane in center with pink and green colors. There are 3 micro bubbles and 1 visible bubble 1/2 mm. The glass dome is in excellent condition and may have been professionally polished. There are no scratches, no nicks, no chips on top or sides of dome. Please ignore camera lights, there are only scratches on bottom of weight. Perthshire 1 of 1 Baseball Player paperweight : 77 mm / 3 inch diameter. Signed with P cane. Description: Rare – probably unique – paperweight from the long closed Scottish company Perthsire Paperweights. This is a version of the PP185 design issued in 1997, which had a soccer player centre cane; in this example the centre cane is a baseball player. Probably made as a trial piece. The millefiori canes and latticino spokes are set on a mottled cranberry ground. Concave polished base centred with a’P’ signature cane. Size : diameter 3 inch / 77 mm; height 2 1/8 inch / 55 mm. Condition : very good; no chips, bruises, or scratches. Please remember this is not a brand new item – it is at least 20 years old, and so you may be able to find minuscule marks elsewhere if you search using a magnifying glass.
