STUNNING RICK BECK (HAND BLOWN) Art Glass Disc Paperweight, Signed… The husband and wife team of Valerie and Richard Beck work in blown glass to create objects of beauty and function. They have taught at the Penland School of Craft in North Carolina throughout their long career. They live and work in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina. Their glass ornaments incorporate Murrini designs, based on an ancient Roman design. Layers of colored glass are heated, shaped and stretched into long canes. Thin cross-sections of this are then cut creating the murrinis. These opaque murrinis are incorporated into the translucent glass during the process of blowing, creating the patterns you see in the finished blown ball. Rick & Valerie have their own workshop where they create their STUNNING pieces. You can find very few similar discs like this, online. Each disc is unique and different. No two are alike. This disc will be absolutely beautiful placed near a window! It comes with the wooden block stand. MEASUREMENTS ARE: 5-1/2 H x 5-3/4 W. This is a very rare Bacchus paperweight which is magnum sized as is usual. This paperweight contains some nice complex canes, has canes already identified as Bacchus and has been confirmed to me as such by a world known expert / dealer in top end paperweights. Although the faceting may not be original, this style of faceting has been seen on several Bacchus paperweights before. It has a top facet, a first row of 6 facets and a lower row of 9 facets. All facets are deeply dished and exactly 1 in diameter. This paperweight shows honest unrestored condition. What I mean by that is, that it has a well defined wear ring to the base (around a concave centre), and several minor chips / scratches around the facets. The largest is to one of the lower side facets at around 1/4 diameter. There is another, a little smaller, to one of the upper side facets. The rest are mostly to the facet edges and are around 1/8 in size. In total there are 4 larger chips and around 20 smaller ones. Please see the photos for details. This is a large paperweight 3 1/4″ diameter x 2 1/4″ tall and weighing 1lb 9 3/4 oz. This is a large paperweight 83mm diameter x 54mm tall and weighing 731g. Items are always well packaged and promptly despatched. For purchasers from the USA, this paperweight can be brought to the PCA convention in May of this year.
