An absolutely breathtaking art glass controlled bubbles paperweight by artist Robert Eickholt. Pictures of this piece simply does not do it justice! Very beautiful and one of a kind! It is in very good condition with a couple of very tiny fleabites on the surface which are barely noticeable. Measures approximately 5.5″ x 3.5″.

In late 1975, the Milropa glass studio began operation founded by three gentleman: Steven Mildwoff, Ron Coles and Paul Seide. The name’Milropa’ was an acronym using parts of the three founders names. The studio rented space from the Bent Glass Works factory owned by Mr. Mildwoff’s father, located in Kew Gardens, Queens, New York. Paul Seide was put in charge of creating lines of product which included paperweights of various forms and colors. After Ron Coles departure in 1977, the renowned artist David Huchthausen came to work at the studio a year later as Design Director. He created an attractive line of glass using the air trap method he had been working on for several years prior to his employment at Milropa. The studio subsequently closed in September 1980 after Mr. Huchthausen accepted a professorship at a university in Tennessee. The paperweights produced by the studio in its short time of operation depict an unusual style seldom scene in contemporary art glass from mid to late 20th century. This beautiful example in the pinnacle form has a translucent iridescent blue core surrounded by a clear outer layer of glass. When light shines on the object, a rainbow iridescence can be viewed. Streaks of air trap bubbles fill the crevices of the folded design. A truly amazing work of art by the studio. The weight measures 4″ tall and approximately 4″ by 2 3/4. Inscribed near the base is the studio name, year of production 1978 and the possible catalog number of AA 045. Thorough examination reveals no chips, cracks, damage or repairs. A thin layer of green felt covers the bottom for easy display. A great gift for someone special. Please view all pictures as they are considered part of the description. Please check back to my listings often as I will be posting numerous fine examples of glass, pottery and porcelain in the near future.
