Antique Baccarat millefiori on muslin paperweight : 59 mm / 2 3/8 inch diameter. 7 Gridels plus flower cane, B1848 cane. Description: Classic antique French paperweight made in 1848 by Baccarat , with B1848 date / signature cane. Medium sized example with 7 Gridel silhouette canes, and a flower cane, all set on an’upset muslin’ cushion. Concave polished base with remains of pontil mark at the centre. Very good condition, but note small chip on edge of wear rim – see images. Size : diameter 2 3/8 inch / 59 mm; height 1 3/4 inch / 44 mm. Condition : very good; no chips, bruises, or scratches other than the small chip on the wear rim noted above. A fabulous example of the work of famous glass artist Josh Simpson. This is one of his larger mega planet paperweights. It contains all of his signature traits, including iridescence, satellites, intricate colors and shapes. It is 3 and 3/8 inches tall and almost 4 in diameter. No scratches or chips. Signed and dated 1-10-07 on the bottom. The bottom also shows where the punty broke off when it was made, which is unusual for the artist, but in no way affects the beauty and condition of the glass.
