Beautiful Cape Cod Glass Works Christmas Tree And Snowman Art Glass Paperweight
This is a beautiful, and rare, Cape Cod Glass Works Christmas snowman and tree paperweight chock full of bits of latticino and filigree covering the surface of the tree, on a white sodden snow style base. It measures 4″ high, and 5 3/8″ X almost 3 1/2 across white base. The snowman has applied black eyes and smile and an orange nose, topped with a red white and green latticino hat, and red and white scarf. It has a signature cane on the base “CCGW94″ and its original paper label. It is in excellent condition with no chips, or cracks. These Christmas tree and snowman combo’s are not very common. Bill Burchfield started glass working at Pairpoint in the 1970’s, and went on to start his own studio/glass factory in the late 70’s or early 80’s, in Buzzards Bay, MA, then on to Sagamore, MA in the late 80’s working through the 1990’s, until it moved to Tennessee in about 2000 only working for a brief time before finally ceasing operations, and made some of the most beautiful crown weights, swirls, marbries, and millefiori paperweights and marbles, at the height of his career in the 1990s, and was best known for his Clichy style rose canes which are some of the best contemporary examples, in my opinion, but sadly passed away a little over a year ago.
