Gorgeous ANTIQUE AMERICAN END OF DAY Art Glass Paperweight. (Circa 1890) I do not see any surface issues with this lovely piece and that is what leads me to believe it may have been professionally polished at one time. I see many Outstanding Canes and some Very Lovely Latticino Pieces. These types of weights are sometimes called Scrambles or End Of Day. It has a Concave Bottom that shows some flea bites and some shelf ware to the basal rim and that is. With it’s age. I even see a few nicely placed controlled bubbles here and there. I really like collecting these types of fascinating weights to see how many different kinds of canes I can identify in each weight. These End Of Day Paperweights are getting hard and hard to find from the Mid to Late 1800, so don’t let this one slip by you again. Every collection should have a few examples of this type to add variety. I consider this Amazing Paperweight to be in Very Good Original Antique Condition. This Art Glass Paperweight is from the late William Gaskills Cherished Collection. Gaskill was a former President of the National Paperweight Collectors Association (PCA) and an avid and very astute Art Glass Paperweight Collector. After His passing, his collection was on loan (for approximately 3 years from 2006 to 2009) to the Museum of American Glass (Wheaton Village) in Millville, NJ, which is now known as Wheaton Village Arts and Cultural Center. Gaskills highly regarded and very extensive Art Glass Paperweight Collection was on display in their most prominent area of the Museum at that time. Just prior to being put on display at the Museum, Lawrence Selman of the Renown L. Selman was commissioned to do an appraisal of the entire collection. Selman is known worldwide for his expertise in the field of Art Glass Paperweights and in 2001, Selman was awarded the honor of being named by the Paperweight Collectors Association, one of the Top Ten People of the 20. Century to influence the paperweight art form. Gaskills collection was considered to be one of the largest gatherings of Antique American Art Glass Paperweights known to be in private hands. In 2009 a family member took possession of the entire collection and it went safely and quietly into storage for approximately 6 years, from 2009 to 2015. In 2016 I was very proud and honored to have had the opportunity to acquire a large portion of Mr. Gaskills Wonderful and Cherished Art Glass Paperweight Collection.
