Da es zu dieser Zeit in Europa viele Glashütten gab, verbreitete sich die Herstellung von Paperweights in Europa und den USA in einem rasantem Tempo: wir haben hier die klassische Periode der antiken Paperweights ca. Einzelkünstler standen nicht im Vordergrund, sondern Manufakturen. Bekannte Böhmisch schlesische Manufakturen, sowie Bacchus, Islington, J. Kilner, Richardson, Arculus, Walsh Walsh, Clichy, Baccarat, Saint Louis, Pantin, Saint Mande, NEGC (New England Glass Company), Boston & Sandwich, Pairpoint, Gillinder & Sons, Dorflinger, Mount Whashington, Milville u. Danach ging die Herstellung stark zurück und man spricht hier von der Phase der nachklassischen Paperweights Riedel und Böhmen/Schlesien. Erst durch die spanische Familie Ysart begann im 20. Jahrhundert die Renaissance der Paperweightherstellung. Der Vater, Salvadore Ysart, begann in den 1930er Jahren Paperweights nach den klassischen Vorbildern herzustellen. Mit seinen Söhnen Paul, Vincent und Augustine Ysart belebte er in Schottland bereits vor dem Zweiten Weltkrieg die Paperweight- herstellung. Auch danach gingen wesentlich künstlerische Impulse von dieser Familie aus. Unseres Erachtens wird bis auf den heutigen Tag diese künstlerische Leistung weit unterschätzt, denn aus Ihren initialzündenden Anfängen gingen später, Strathearn, Perthshire, Selkirk, Phoenix, Caithness usw. Aber auch Einzelkünstler, wie z. John Deacons, Peter Mc Dougall, Collin Terris, Peter Holmes und William Manson wurden stark durch die Ysarts geprägt. Durch den amerikanischen Sammler Paul Jokelson, begann in der zweiten Hälfte des 20. Jahrhunderts ein immenser Aufstieg bei der Paperweightherstellung mit den Manufakturen in Europa: Murano, Baccarat, St. Louis, Strathearn, Perthshire, Caithness, Selkirk, Whitefriars. This classic antique Clichy (French, circa 1850) paperweight features a classic Pansy set with Bud, Stem, and two Green Leaves. The weight is 2-1/16″ diameter and 1-7/16″ high. It is not signed however attribution is positive. It has been professionally polished and except for a tiny scratch on the concave bottom, condition is perfect. This Peter McDougall Art Glass Paperweight has closely packed, complex millefiori canes and stands on a simple yet beautiful, white latticino pedestal. Artist signature cane and Perthshire 1990 canes are present. The number 82 is etched on the bottom. Missing the Perthshire sticker on the bottom. The underside has a scratch on the perimeter that doesnt effect the overall appearance. More than likely a scratch from moving it around in the display cabinet. This offering is for a lovely Richard Satava moon jellyfish art glass paperweight. I photographed the paperweight on both a white and a black background for you. I did not use a flash. The paperweight is about 5 3/4 inches tall and about 2 3/4 inches wide at it’s widest point. The paperweight is in very good, used, condition. There is some light scratching on the bottom consistent with age and use. Otherwise there is nothing more than very light wear. The paperweight is labeled Satava 664-03 as you can see in my last picture. Please send us a message with any questions.
