Detailed with an assortment of fused murrini, applied filigrana cane, inclusions of gold foils, and dichroic glass strips, this beautiful piece is from Josh Simpson’s “Inhabited Planet” series. The 3 paperweight has a flat, polished base and is signed and serialized on the bottom. Due to the one-of-a-kind nature of his pieces, each planet is unique. The basic theme of the inhabited planet series is that a new planet has been discovered with interesting features inviting exploration. There is a blue ocean swimming around green continents, forest filled mountain ranges and possibly inhabited cities. Interesting, possibly man made, structures require further exploration. There is a blue and white ribbon shaped spaceship on its way to investigate. This is a work of astonishing depth and intricate beauty. Josh Simpson has been making magical glass objects including paperweights for over 40 years. He has long had a fascination with space exploration and is married to Astronaut Cady Coleman. He is a graduate of Hamilton College and has his own glass studio in Shelburne Falls, Massachusetts. He focuses on creating objects with a range of color, form, contrast, iridescence, tessellating patterns and complexity. 3″ in diameter by just over 2 3/4″ high. The base is ground flat. Signed on the base “Simpson 98″ and the number “11-129″. The number “11-129″ designates this as the 129th paperweight made in November, 1998. Excellent condition with no cracks, chips or scratches. Lundberg Studios 1981 D. Blue butterfly Paperweight This listing is for a Lundburg Studios paper weight dated 1981 & signed D. The scene is a blue butterfly flying below pink blossoms. Lovely floral branches and butterfly in clear glass. Colors change according to the light. Beautiful glimmer glittery silver gold base. Globe perfect, no cracks or scratches. There is a very small fleabite (maybe 1/16) on the bottom below the Lundberg Studio name, see last photo. It was there when I bought it, could just be part of the handblown glass process. Here is a stunning and quite early Perthshire “Millefiori Flower” paperweight with stunning lampwork 5 petaled flower and wonderful canes against a pink ground. It dates to 1982 and was made in a limited edition of 300 with the edition closing at 243. The flower is surrounded by a close ring of canes and a garland of spaced canes. The original Perthshire trade label is still on the base and there is a p cane with date to the base as well. This is a medium sized paperweight by Perthshire’s standards, as it is 2.5 diameter and it weighs about 285 grammes. Excellent condition with no chips cracks fleabites or scratches.
