Salazar is highly regarded as one of the finest art glass makers in the U. His famous art work is on display in many museums throughout the U. This Salazar magnum paperweight features a beautiful white crane with a red cap flying over three blue & white iris flowers. There is a blue ground beneath the iris. The detail on the glass canes that form the crane & iris design is superb. The variation in the colors for the crane & iris is also superb. The paperweight is signed around the rim (above the bottom) with “Daniel Salazar”, “Lundberg Studios”, “4-26-97″ and D. There is an additional signature of D. I believe the 36 represents this paperweight as #36 of a limited edition by Salazar. The paperweight has always been on display in a closed cabinet with other of my paperweights. The paperweight was always kept out of the sun. Overall, the Salazar flying crane paperweight is in excellent pre-owned condition with no damage and no repairs to note. The glass is clear and bright without discoloration. There could be tiny surface scratches from expected use. There are no chips, cracks, scratches, bumps or bruises. Pleases note: there are reflections of light in the photos that are not damage to the paperweight or defects in the paperweight. Daniel Salazar went to work for a small art glass studio (Noveau Glass) as a young artist in the early 1970s. This small studio later became the well known Lundberg Studios. Lundberg Studios is famous for their high quality and beautiful art glass. Salazar worked with the Lundbergs to develop their unique lampworking process for which they are quite famous. A fabulous example of the work of famous glass artist Josh Simpson. This is one of his larger mega planet paperweights. It contains all of his signature traits, including iridescence, satellites, intricate colors and shapes. It is 3 and 3/8 inches tall and almost 4 in diameter. No scratches or chips. Signed and dated 1-10-07 on the bottom. The bottom also shows where the punty broke off when it was made, which is unusual for the artist, but in no way affects the beauty and condition of the glass. Orient & Flume art glass is highly prized by glass collectors and can be found in many fine collections and museums. The company was started in Chico, CA in 1972 and continues to hand craft beautiful art glass and paperweights. The vase is signed “Orient & Flume” and “0333U3OF0600″. I believe the design is “dogwood” but it might be “mystical floral” or something else. There are flowers, leaves and vines in the design. The glass that forms the vase is quite thick and clear so the vase appears to be covered with the colored glass work. The vase is in excellent condition and has only been on display in my art glass collection. The vase has not been used to hold water or other materials and there are no stains inside. The glass remains bright and clear with lovely colors of white, green and red in the glass. There is no damage that I can see. There could be small surface scratches on the bottom and the exterior from expected wear. Weight: 2.97 pounds. Width across: 3 5/8. Circumference at widest point: 12. Diameter of base: 1 1/2. It measures 4 1/4″(10.75cms) in diameter & a little under 1 5/8″(4cms) tall. The design features three flower topped lily pads with a dragonfly hovering above.
